Job Summary

The role of the Referral Coordinator is to promptly, efficiently and accurately execute all aspects of the referral process. Promote the quality and cost effectiveness of medical care through strict adherence to all Utilization Management policies and procedures with Golden Shore Medical Group. The Coordinator serves as a system navigator and point of contact for patients and families, while having direct access for asking questions and raising concerns. The Coordinator may assume advocate role on the patient's behalf with the carrier to ensure approval of the necessary supplies/services for the patient in a timely fashion.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities ( List all knowledge, skills and abilities that are necessary to perform the job satisfactorily)

  • Responsible for handling, monitoring and processing ordered referrals in an accurate and timely manner.

  • Responsible for handling and processing medical records.

  • Responsible for following up with specialist offices on pending/outstanding patient appointments and consultation reports.

  • Contributes to patient satisfaction levels and member/patient growth at respective medical offices.

  • Maintain ongoing tracking and appropriate documentation on referrals to promote team awareness and ensure patient safety. This tracking may use an IT database.

  • Contact review organizations and insurance companies to ensure prior approval requirements are met. Present necessary medical information such as history, diagnosis and prognosis. Provide specific medical information to financial services to maximize reimbursement to the hospital and physicians.

  • Identify and utilize cultural and community resources. Establish and maintain relationships with identified service providers.

  • Knowledge of ICD10 & CPT codes

  • Knowledge of California Children Services, Regional Center, Local Education Authority and alternate payor programs

Job Qualifications


Required Education: 

  • Medical Assistant Certificate

  • Medical Terminology

  • Strong computer skills to include familiarity with Epic EMR and Microsoft office tools

  • Strong customer service focus

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills

  • Teamwork orientation

  • Organized and able to manage competing priorities

  • Good judgment

  • Resourcefulness in problem solving

  • Able to take and follow through with delegated tasks and accountability


Required Education
 

High School Diploma or GED


Required Experience
 

1 Year Clinic or Managed Care experience related to referral processing ICD & CPT code knowledge


Preferred Education
 

Associate's Degree


Preferred Experience
 

2 years Medical Assistant Bilingual


Preferred License, Certification, Association
 

Medical Assistant graduate from accredited school CPR Certified - Current verifiable CPR card
